How do I optimize for Google AI Mode?

Short answer
Treat it as passage-level SEO. AI Mode fans a query out into sub-queries and assembles an answer from passages, so the goal is clean, self-contained answers to each sub-question rather than one page ranking for the head term. Most pages cited in AI Mode do not rank in the organic top ten.

Structure for extraction

Use the question as the heading and put the answer in the sentence beneath it. Keep each answer independent enough to be lifted without the section above it.

Tables and short lists of named options with named attributes are picked up disproportionately, because they resolve several branches of the fan at once.

Cover the fan, not the keyword

Build out the adjacent questions — cost, alternatives, suitability for specific situations, how to migrate, what the drawbacks are. Each is a branch you can be retrieved for.

Because selection is passage-level, a small focused page can be cited for a query far broader than anything it could rank for. That asymmetry is the opportunity.

See where you actually stand

We ask AI engines the questions your buyers ask and show you whether you were named, who was named instead, and which sources they cited. Free.
