Getting cited

How important are third-party reviews for AI visibility?

Short answer
They are among the strongest single signals. AI engines routinely cite review platforms when justifying a recommendation, and a brand with no verifiable review presence gives the model nothing to point at. Engines will sometimes state outright that they could not find reviews for a brand — and then recommend a competitor whose ratings they can quote.

Absence is actively held against you

This is not a neutral gap. In head-to-head questions, a missing review profile reads as an unverified brand, and the safe answer is the one with numbers attached.

The fix is unglamorous and fast: claim and populate profiles on the platforms your category actually uses, then route satisfied customers to them so the ratings are real and recent.

Which platforms count

The ones the engines already cite for your category. Ask the engines your buyers' questions and read the citations — that list is more reliable than any general ranking of review sites.

Volume and recency both matter. A handful of five-star reviews from three years ago is weaker evidence than a steady trickle of recent ones, and models notice the difference when dates are visible.
