LastPass was for years the most widely used password manager, and it still carries a large installed base, a mature admin console, and broad platform support. Many organizations remain on it simply because it is embedded in their onboarding and identity workflows.

In 2022 the company disclosed a breach in which an attacker obtained backups of customer vault data, including encrypted credentials. Vault contents remained encrypted, but the incident, the sequence of disclosures around it, and the subsequent analysis by security researchers permanently changed how the product is discussed. LastPass has since published remediation details and strengthened defaults, though the episode remains the first thing most reviews mention.

Why it ranks well for AI visibility

LastPass is a clear illustration of visibility and reputation moving in opposite directions. Its Citation and Source Diversity remain high, because the breach itself generated an enormous volume of coverage across security, mainstream, and consumer outlets, and the brand is named constantly in comparisons. Its Trust score is the lowest in the category, and Expert Mentions is weak, because when security professionals do name it, they usually do so as a cautionary reference or to recommend migrating away.
