Measuring AI visibility

How do I track whether AI engines mention my brand?

Short answer
Ask the engines the questions your buyers ask, then record whether you were named, in what position, who was named instead, and which sources were cited. Run the same prompt set on a fixed schedule so results are comparable. Ad-hoc spot checks feel informative but cannot show movement.

Build a prompt set that mirrors real intent

Cover the full buying journey, not just your category name: open discovery ('best X for Y'), price, quality, alternatives, comparisons against named competitors, and questions about you by name. Twenty to forty prompts is usually enough to be stable.

Write them the way a buyer would type them into a chat box — full sentences with context and constraints, not keyword fragments.

Record four things every time

Whether you were named at all; your position within the answer; which competitors appeared; and every domain the engine cited. That last one is the most actionable output of the whole exercise — it is a ranked list of where to earn presence.

Answers vary between runs, so treat a single result as noise and a trend across runs as signal. Fixing the prompt set and the cadence is what makes the comparison meaningful.
